Baku 3-Day Itinerary: What to See and Where to Eat

Updated: 08.05.2026 · Currency: 1 AZN ≈ $0.59

Day 1: Old City and Caspian Boulevard

Morning — Icherisheher

Start with the Old City — best visited in the morning before tourist groups arrive. Enter through the Shamakhi Gate and wander without a fixed route: narrow streets, stone houses, the smell of spices from small shops.

Must-see inside:

  • Maiden Tower — symbol of Baku. Climb to the top for views of the Caspian. Entry: 15 AZN for foreigners. Open daily 09:00–18:00
  • Palace of the Shirvanshahs — 15th century medieval complex. Entry: 15 AZN
  • Museum of Miniature Books — free. Closed Mondays and Thursdays

Time: 2–3 hours.

Breakfast nearby: Qutabs at any tea house near the Old City — thin flatbreads with meat or herbs, 2–4 AZN each.

Afternoon — Boulevard and Flame Towers

5 minutes walk from Icherisheher to the Seaside Boulevard — 25 km of seafront along the Caspian. Rent a bicycle or scooter: 7–10 AZN/hour.

The Flame Towers — three skyscrapers shaped like flames — light up at night. A sight worth seeing.

Evening — Where to Eat

  • Budget (20–25 AZN/person): «QÉ™dim Baki» or «Anadolu»
  • Mid-range (45–70 AZN): «Firuze», «Nergiz»

Must try: Shah-plov, qutabs with greens and camel meat, düşbərə.

Day 2: Fire and Stone

Gobustan (Morning)

  • Reserve: 15 AZN (museum + petroglyphs)
  • Mud volcanoes: taxi drivers near the museum will take you for 20–25 AZN per car. A Lada is the only real transport there

Ateshgah and Yanardag

  • Combined ticket: 15 AZN (better value than buying separately at 9 AZN each)
  • Yanardag: visit strictly after sunset — the daytime effect is disappointing

Day 3: Modern Baku and Shopping

Highland Park

Take the funicular (1 AZN — often under maintenance, use Bolt taxi ~3 AZN) or walk up. Best panorama of Baku — especially at sunset when the Flame Towers start glowing.

Heydar Aliyev Center

Designed by Zaha Hadid. Entry: 15 AZN. Inside: classic cars and models of Azerbaijan. The building exterior is free and unmissable for photos.

Shopping

  • Deniz Mall — most modern shopping center on the boulevard
  • Souvenirs in Icherisheher — bargain hard, knock at least 30% off

Practical Info — May 2026

Transport: metro and bus — 0.50 AZN. BakiKart required (card itself 2 AZN). Taxi only via apps — Bolt, Uber AZ. City center ride: 3–6 AZN.

Money: Russian bank cards don't work since 2022. Bring cash (USD/EUR/RUB) and exchange at official exchange offices.

SIM card: airport SIM cards from 25 AZN. In the city (Azercell/Bakcell) — 15–20 AZN.
