Gobustan from Baku: How to Get There Independently
Updated: 08.05.2026 · Currency: 1 AZN ≈ $0.59
Gobustan is a must-visit. But going there unprepared means overpaying taxi drivers or getting stuck in dust. In 2026 the location has become more civilized — and more expensive.
What to See
- Interactive museum and petroglyphs — entry 15 AZN for foreigners. Modern museum followed by a walk among the rocks
- Mud volcanoes — a new tourist complex has opened. This is no longer a «wild field» but a civilized zone with roads and infrastructure
How to Get There
Option 1: Public Transport (Budget)
- Bus №125 from «28 May» metro or «Azneft» stop to «Bina» / «Sadarak» (Lokbatan) — 0.50 AZN
- Transfer to bus №195 to Gobustan village — 0.50 AZN
- From the village to the museum — 3 km. Local taxi (~5–7 AZN) or walk in the heat
Downside: the mud volcanoes are another 10–12 km off-road — no buses go there.
Option 2: Taxi from Baku (Optimal)
Only via Bolt or Uber AZ:
- One way — ~20–25 AZN
- Round trip with waiting — negotiate 55–70 AZN. That's a fair price for 4–5 hours of the driver's time
Option 3: Guided Tour

Mud Volcanoes: Important Updates
The old practice of loading tourists into Soviet-era Ladas for 20 AZN is gone. A proper road now leads to the new complex.
- Entry to new complex — ~15 AZN (includes access to equipped trails and viewpoints)
- If you want «wild» volcanoes where you can touch the mud — look for them away from the complex. But Bolt won't go there — it'll get stuck
Day Plan
Best combination to save time:
- 09:00 — depart from Baku
- 10:00 — museum and petroglyphs (before the heat)
- 12:00 — mud volcanoes
- 13:30 — lunch at fish restaurants near Bibi-Heybat on the way back
Budget for the Trip 2026 (per person)
| Item | Amount | Note | |------|--------|------| | Transport (shared taxi) | 30 AZN | For two people | | Entry (Museum + Volcanoes) | 30 AZN | For foreigners | | Food/Water | 15 AZN | Snacks | | Total | ~75 AZN (~$44) | Without guide |
